Maggie Hambling to Create Carpenter Memorial

We are proud and delighted to share the significant and exciting news that a sculpture by Maggi Hambling will form the permanent memorial to Edward Carpenter to be sited in Sheffield City Centre. Maggi Hambling is a contemporary painter and sculptor and was the first artist in residence at London’s National Gallery. Her works are held in important public collections across the world, including the National Gallery, British Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Tate in the UK. We believe that her sculpture will provide a fitting memorial for Edward Carpenter and a significant cultural focus for the City of Sheffield. Above all we believe that its conception, production and siting align totally with the values of The Friends of Edward Carpenter.
